Welcome to Waikākāriki
Just 8 minutes from the centre of Christchurch, Waikākāriki is a small
residential
community with strong connections to:
- Existing residential communities.
- The Palms mall with retail, entertainment and hospitality facilities.
- High quality public green zones
e.g. Bottle Lake Reserve and Horseshoe Lake Reserve with it’s excellent
walkways and picnic areas.
- Superior sporting and recreation areas
e.g. Shirley Golf Course and Burwood
Park where you can play Rugby,
Cricket, Tennis, Lawn Bowls and Football.
- A strong public bus connection to the centre of the city and key
locations
around Christchurch.
Waikākāriki refers to the lush green waters of Horseshoe Lake, originally home
to the Ngāi Tahu settlement of Te Oranga. Waikākāriki was one of many local
mahinga kai valued by Kaiapoi Ngāi Tahu as an important source of food.
The name Waikākāriki pays tribute to the ancestral connections of the site to the
local sub-tribe of Ngāi Tuāhariri. We anticipate titles being available mid
February 2010.
